CLAVICORDSCHOOL MUSIC CURRICULUM

THE CURRICULUM

10 grades. One musical journey.

Clavicord is a 10-book progressive curriculum, with each grade building on what students learnt the year before.

STAGE 1 · GRADES 1 – 2

Discovering Music

Children explore sound, find the beat, sing together and meet the instruments of the orchestra, building the listening habits every later grade relies on.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

  • Music and sound
  • Beat and rhythm
  • Singing
  • Instruments
  • Musical expression
  • Listening
  • Basic musical concepts
STAGE 2 · GRADES 3 – 4

Building Musical Foundations

Students begin reading music properly: notes and rests on the staff, so that what they hear and what they see on the page start to connect.

  • Notes and rests
STAGE 3 · GRADES 5 – 10

Creating & Understanding

IN EVERY GRADE

Experience. Understand. Explain. Apply. Create.

The same five-part approach runs through every book, so students know how to learn music as well as what to learn.

  1. 01

    Experience

Students listen, sing, move and play before they name anything.

  2. 02

    Understand

Each experience is connected to the concept behind it.

  3. 03

    Explain

Students learn the vocabulary to talk and write about music.

  4. 04

    Apply

Concepts are practised in real musical activities and worksheets.

  5. 05

    Create

Every stage ends in students making music of their own.
